Aluminum Fence FAQ — Everything Canadian Homeowners and Contractors Ask

Ontario permits. Canadian climate performance. Pricing in CAD. Installation. Here are the answers

General Questions

PrimeAlux products combine foam-core aluminum boards and heavy-duty extruded structural profiles (posts & rails), creating a rigid, rust-free system that’s engineered for high winds, low maintenance, and long life. This makes them stronger, more stable, more affordable, and more durable than standard wood, vinyl, or hollow metal systems.

Our products are available in both pre-painted aluminum coils and powder-coated aluminum finishes, giving you flexibility in design and durability.

The pre-painted aluminum coils feature a PU foam core, providing exceptional flatness, strength, and a realistic wood-like appearance while remaining lightweight.

The powder-coated finishes are applied to structural components for enhanced weather resistance and long-lasting color retention.

Both finish types are engineered to resist corrosion, delamination, paint peeling, cracking, or chipping — ensuring your fence or gate maintains its vibrant look for years with minimal maintenance.

Wood warps and rots through freeze-thaw cycles — in Ontario this can happen dozens of times a year. Vinyl becomes brittle and cracks at sub-zero temperatures. Aluminum doesn't absorb moisture, doesn't warp, and is dimensionally stable at low temperatures. The UV-resistant powder-coat finish requires no painting or sealing. Result: no annual maintenance, and no replacement in 7–10 years like wood.

PrimeAlux fence slats are made from pre-painted aluminum coils with a polyurethane foam core bonded between two aluminum faces. The foam adds rigidity, dampens sound, and provides thermal stability. This is different from a hollow aluminum extrusion — the result is a slat that resists denting, holds its shape, and performs acoustically.

Four finishes: Walnut Wood Grain, Grey Wood Grain, Yellow Wood Grain, and Solid Metallic. All available in horizontal and vertical slat orientations. Custom colours available for project volumes on request.

Permits and Building Code in Ontario

Most Ontario municipalities require a permit for fences over (~6 ft). Setback requirements from property lines also vary by city. Always confirm with your local building department before installing. Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Ottawa, and other cities each have their own fence bylaws.

Yes. We provide an Ontario Building Code compliance report, wind-load test documentation, ASTM E84 fire test certification, and ASTM E90 acoustic test certification. All available for download or provided on request for contractor project files.

Ontario pool enclosure bylaws typically require: minimum 1.2 m fence height from grade, self-closing self-latching gates that open outward from the pool, no footholds for climbing. Requirements vary by municipality. Confirm specifics with your building department before specifying. PrimeAlux provides structural documentation for fence and gate components.

Our systems meet structural performance standards applicable across Canada. OBC documentation is specific to Ontario. For projects in other provinces, confirm local building code requirements with your contractor or building department — wind load and fence height regulations vary.

Base plates anchor first → posts slide over anchor bolts → rails slide into post channels → slats feed through rails → cap and end plates lock everything in. Experienced fence installers work through the system efficiently. Detailed installation manuals are available for every product.

Minimum 15 cm concrete layer under the base plate bracket is recommended. For in-ground post installations, account for local frost penetration depth — Ontario design frost depth is typically 1.2–1.5 meters. Your installer or the installation manual provides specific guidance.
